For over 70 years, the AKC has offered Pointing Breed Field Trials and in 1986 added Hunting Tests for these dogs. The dogs are run in pairs, called braces around a course on which birds are released so that they can demonstrate their ability to find birds, point staunchly and retrieve the downed birds.

Fall Field Trial Report:
The MDGSPC Fall Horseback Field trial was held on November 6, 7 & 8, 2009 at York Pointer &
Setter Grounds in Rossville, PA.
We had 3 days of dogs for the event and the best weather of the season. Everyone seemed to enjoy
themselves. We shared dinner on Friday and Saturday evening in the clubhouse. Many Thank’s to the
people who helped clean up after the dinners and helped with the club house: Kathy Kuhns, Betsy
Archer, Jill Heare.
We can never thank the judges enough for the long hours in the saddle – John Chokran, Bob Bonneville,
Barbara Foehrkolb, Tom McKellar and Stephanie Snyder. My kitchen help was invaluable; ‘Jill Heare’
came on Friday and stayed for the duration. I could not have done it without her. Thank you, thank you.
While Jill was in the kitchen ‘Rick Heare’ took care of the Line Marshall duty. Pat Dady, Jim & Kathy
Kuhns planted birds or whatever Ken needed to keep the event running very smoothly. Thank you, thank
you, you all are the best. Pat Dady & Carroll Waltemyer did a great job with gunning. Many thanks to
you.
I received donations in the kitchen from Jill Heare, Betsy Archer and Stephanie Snyder. We had a 50/50
raffle and a “Wild Life Pitcher with 6 glasses”(donated by Carolyn Hawbaker). Nancy Huyser won the
50/50 and Kathy Kuhns won the Pitcher and glasses.
